STORM KNOCKS OUT POWER TO 3,800

7/8/2012

The tremendous storm that swept through Indiana County – and Indiana Borough in particular – knocked out power to about 3,800 customers yesterday and crews continue their efforts to turn the power on and clean up the damage.  Trees and utility lines were downed throughout the region as fire crews began getting calls shortly after 5 PM.  At one point there were so many calls that Indiana County 911 simply related that numerous trees and wires were down countywide, without naming specific municipalities.

Among those called for trees and lines down were Indiana firefighters, twice to the 1300 block of Church Street and once to College Lodge Road; Cherryhill Township to Chestnut Ridge Road; Creekside to Kettering Road; and Marion Center to Kimmel Road.  Many other residents handled downed trees with their own chain saws.  Both Penelec and REA workers have gotten the lights back on for most of their affected customers.
