IUP Homecoming weekend is here, this year coinciding with Indiana High’s Homecoming, and the full weekend of events kick off today with a pep rally on North 7th Street at 4:45 PM. Coaches from both IUP and Indiana will be there along with some players, the IUP cheerleaders, the Indiana High School marching band, and many others.
Other events today include the first Wounded Warrior 5k run. Runners will leave from Pierce Hall at 4 PM.
Tomorrow’s Homecoming parade, featuring nearly seventy units, starts at 10 AM. For new IUP president Mike Driscoll, the parade will be a highlight of the weekend. He says Homecoming is much more important here in Indiana, compared to two univerisites with which he previously worked, in Portland, Oregon and Anchorage, Alaska, much larger cities that do not have the historical connection to their universities that IUP has with Indiana. Driscoll says they expect up to 10,000 visitors to return to Indiana for Homecoming.
The parade tomorrow will be followed by the Crimson Huddle and Friends Pregame Party from 11 to 2 at the Kovalchick Complex, prior to the football game against Slipepry Rock.
