SENIORS GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Aging Service centers get behind charities

10/5/2012

Aging Services, Inc. announces that all of their full time social centers in Indiana County are once again gearing up for their annual fund raising events to raise money for community  projects which center members and staff have chosen.   These special projects, named “Seniors Giving Back To the Community”, was a big success last year, and each special charity or need benefited from the generosity of the local community, and the centers fund raising efforts.

Just like last year they realized there were a lot of places within each community, both individuals and organizations, that could use their help!  Each Center’s membership and staff met, discussed and planned strategies for the fundraising.

Chestnut Hills Social Center chose disabled veterans’ as the recipient of their efforts.  To generate the funds, the center will be selling Chicken Noodle Soup now through Oct. 18th, and will be holding a Veterans’ Breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 7th   from 9-10 am.  A donation jar will be available to collect monetary donations.  To place your order for soup, call (724) 459-5251.  Then, mark your calendar and plan to attend the Veterans’ Breakfast, too.

Indiana Social Center picked Four Footed Friends as the recipient of their fundraising efforts with proceeds from sales of banana & pumpkin breads in November, and a special breakfast from 9-10 am on Friday, Nov. 16th as the avenue to generate funds.  No reservation is needed for the breakfast which will feature Kitty Cat Pancakes, Hot Sausage Dogs, Chewy Fruit and a fresh drink all for only $2.50. Cash donations are also being accepted, if you wish to stop by and drop off your monetary donation prior to Nov. 16th. For more information, call (724) 465-2697.

Saltsburg Social Center will be holding a Turkey Dinner Benefit on Wednesday, Nov. 14th from 5 -7 pm.   Their fund raiser is to benefit the Saltsburg American Legion Post #57.  The dinner  featuring turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables and dessert will require a $5 ticket purchase in advance only,  and must be purchased by November 7th.    Monetary donations will also be collected through Nov. 14th, in addition to special raffles that will be held the evening of the dinner.   Plan to join us for an evening of good food, fun and community spirit as we raise money for the Saltsburg American Legion.    For more information on the dinner, or to volunteer your time, call (724) 639-9055.

Mahoning Hills Social Center is conducting a food drive to benefit the ICCAP Food Bank.  Their collection of non-perishable food items and monetary donations has already started.   Keep in mind, for each dollar donated, the food bank is able to purchase ten pounds of food to help others.   For more information, contact (724) 286-3099.

Two Lick Valley Social Center is hosting a “Need Your Help Bake Sale” now through November 30th.   As part of the “Seniors Giving Back” project, monetary donations are being accepted to benefit the Christmas Angel Tree, as well as the sale of various baked goods.     Volunteers are also needed to help bake pumpkin rolls, cookies and more at the center.  This is a great way to “give and receive” while helping the Christmas Angel Project at the same time.   More information may be obtained by calling (724) 254-9820.

If you have a few extra dollars and would like to donate to any of these fund raising efforts, please do so.   Likewise, if you’d like to volunteer to help with any of the projects, give the center a call, or call Aging Services, Inc. at (724) 349-4500.
