MAN WILL FACE TRIAL IN DEATH OF SALTSBURG TODDLER
Anderson-Holmes accused of suffocating toddler

10/12/2012

Appearing before District Judge George Thachik, 28-year-old Shawn Anderson-Holmes yesterday waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will face trial for criminal homicide in the death of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old-son last March.  The child, Colby Jozefczyk, died from suffocation at the Saltsburg apartment of 25-year-old Kayla Lyons.

Anderson-Holmes had moved into the apartment with Lyons and her two children just days before Colby’s death.  Investigators say the toddler was beaten on his buttocks and hit on the forehead prior to his suffocation.  They accuse Anderson-Holmes of suffocating the child, then slamming his body against the walls and furniture before putting him in his playpen.

In a separate case that was waived to court last month, Lyons will stand trial on charges of aggravated and simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child for her treatment of Colby, and simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child for abusing her 3-year-old daughter, Ava.  The children were beaten with a hairbursh, slapped, and thrown against the walls of the apartment, according to investigators.  Their father, Jonathan Jozefczyk, had primary custody of them, but allowed them to stay with their mother the weekend of Colby’s death.

Anderson-Holmes remains in the Indiana County Jail on a non-bailable offense.  Lyons is free on signature bond.  Iniana County district Attorney Pat Doughtery does not plan to seek the death penalty and says there will be no plea bargains for either defendant.
