Lewis Paul Beatty, the accused murderer of his wife and two daughters, is due in the courtroom of Judge Tom Bianco this morning (8:30) for formal arraignment on three charges of criminal homicide, two felony charges of arson, and three misdemeanor animal cruelty charges for killing the family’s pets.
The 41-year-old Beatty is accused of murdering the children, 11-year-old Amanda and 6-year-old Sara, on June 1st at his South Mahoning Township home, then driving to the Marion Center home of his estranged wife, Christine, and murdering her. Police say that after the killings, he set fire to both homes.
In a preliminary hearing in August before District Judge Guy Haberl, police investigators outlined in detail the murders and Beatty’s subsequent confession. At the formal arraignment today, Beatty would be expected to enter his pleas to the charges.
