INDIANA MAN CONVICTED OF VEHICULAR HOMICIDE

In a non-jury trial that concluded Friday, 56-year-old Clifford Porterfield of Saltsburg was found guilty of vehicular homicide while DUI and related charges in the death last year of his friend, 43-year-old Ronald Puzak, who lived in Salem TownshipWestmoreland County, but also had a Saltsburg address.  


Judge John Blahovec will sentence Porterfield in three months.  The minimum penalty is three to six years in prison.  


Porterfield testified that Puzak caused the crash by pushing him as he drove on Route 981, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree, but his blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit.  


Porterfield can remain free on bond until his sentencing, but must report to Westmoreland County’s probation department within two weeks.
