The Seward Generating Station in New Florence has been chosen to receive a 2012 Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence.
The honor recognizes successful programs between employers and employees that lead to outstanding safety records. The award will be presented at the power plant on Monday, December 10th at 10:30 a.m. Seward Generating Station Manager Greg Mitchell says safety is the number one priority at the power plant and that the award recognizes all the hard work that employees put into recognizing safety on a daily basis.
The power plant has received other safety-related awards. In 2008, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, or OSHA, named Seward a Voluntary Protection Site and the power plant was one of less than 200 out of around 5,800 in the nation to receive such recognition. The program recognizes businesses that maintain injury and illness rates below the Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.
