A Westmoreland County man cut a state trooper with scissors on Friday morning and was later shot and killed by police. Police said that Seth W. O’Donnell, age 26 of Scottdale, was behaving erratically when he entered the Save-A-Lot in East Huntingdon Township. He was walking up and down the aisles eating and drinking from the shelves and walking around with winter hats from the store displays.

When O’Donnell was told he would have to pay for items in the store, he swung the scissors at the manager. When police arrived, O’Donnell struggled with the police officer, wounding him in the head with the scissors. O’Donnell tried to flee but was shot just outside the door and collapsed in the parking lot. HE was pronounced dead at 9:46 at Excela Frick Hospital.

O’Donnell was found to have a recent history of scrapes with the police where he was involved in incidents at other area stores. Last year he pleaded guilty to simple and indecent assault and disorderly conduct as a part of a plea deal. He was released this past August.
