FLU CASES BEGIN TO DECLINE. ONE FLU DEATH IN INDIANA COUNTY
State report through last Friday

1/23/2013

There has now been one reported death related to the flu in Indiana County this season.  The number of lab-confirmed cases of the flu has increased to 256 in the county.  The latest report from the state Department of health lists statistics through last Friday.

Overall, there have been 75 flu-related deaths since October, 35 of them reported last week including the one from Indiana County.  The Health Department says flu-related cases have started to decline at hospital emergency rooms in all regions across the state. Last week there were 4,903 reported new flu cases, down from 5,069 the week before.

The most common flu has been A/H3N2, which generally causes severe illness in older age groups.  That particular strain and others like it were part of this year’s flu vaccine
