Members of APSCUF, the union representing faculty at IUP and the 13 state-owned universities will hold a demonstration in Harrisburg tomorrow.  The union and the State System of Higher Education have been locked in a contentious contract battle since the expiration of their last contract in June of 2011.

Tomorrow’s demonstration will be at the meeting of the state system’s board of governors meeting.  Protesters are expected to hold the demonstration outside on the steps of the Dixon University Center, where the state system is headquarters. The demonstrators will later crowd into the room where the board of governors meets.

Contract negotiations are scheduled between APSCUF and the state system for next Friday, February 1st.  That is five days after the start of spring classes at the state-owned universities on Monday.  APSCUF officials have said that Monday would be the “optimal” time to call a strike.  There has never been a work stoppage between APSCUF and the State System of Higher Education.
