It was a busy day at the Indiana County Courthouse today, with a number of defendants appearing in court for sentencing.

Among them is Shawn Anderson-Holmes, who pleaded guilty in November to involuntary manslaughter in the suffocation death last March of 17-month-old Colby Josefczyk at the Saltsburg apartment shared by Anderson-Holmes with the toddler’s mother, Kayla Lyons.  Anderson-Holmes told police that he put his hand over the child’s mouth, “for a period of time” to quiet him down, and Colby stopped breathing.  Police say Anderson-Holmes also slammed Colby off a wall and furniture.  Kayla Lyons later found the unresponsive child lying in a crib.

District Attorney Pat Dougherty says Anderson-Holmes was sentenced to 27 months to 10 years in state prison.  Dougherty added that Anderson-Holmes did not show remorse as the sentence was handed down from Judge William Martin.

Lyons is due to be sentenced March 8th for reduced charges of endangering the welfare of her two children.  In exchange for her guilty plea, an aggravated assault charge was dropped.

Also scheduled to be sentenced today is Joseph Gillo Jr. of Penn Run, who pleaded guilty to felony burglary and theft charges in five separate cases stemming from a series of break-ins last summer.  Gillo was charged for burglaries on June 5th, 13th, 14th, and 15th, July 27th, and September 1st.
