Power Restored To Impacted Customers

Your hometown radio stations were among many businesses and homes affected by a major power outage this morning.  Penelec officials confirm the outage was sparked by a problem at the East Pike substation.

Around 1,500 people were impacted by the outage in Indiana borough and White Township.

Many downtown businesses were affected by the outage.  Among the buildings that were dark was the Indiana County Courthouse and our building at 9th and Philadelphia Streets.  IUP’s power was restored after the campus switched to generators at its cogen plant.  Power was restored to everyone impacted by the outage around 12:30 p.m. today.

During the outage, hearings at the Indiana County Courthouse went forward as scheduled due to battery backup power.
