FIRED CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT RANKS AT TOP OF STATE SYSTEM PAYROLL

2/1/2013

The former president of California University ranks at the top of the State System of Higher Education’s payroll list, despite being fired in May.  Angelo Armenti Jr. made more than $376,000 last year, mainly due to unused leave and severance.  Armenti’s salary was about $50,000 more than the State System’s chancellor John Cavanaugh.

The records were released after a Right-to-Know request by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  No one from IUP made the list of the top 10 salaries in the state system.  Cavanaugh ranked second on the list, followed by West Chester Swimming Coach James Rudisall, who made more than $262,000 last year.

Most of his salary came from running swimming camps and lessons that produced income for university scholarships.  Robert Dillman, the former president of East Stroudsburg University, was fourth on the list.  He retired in June.  Rounding out the top five is James Pesek, who retired in September as dean of the College of Business Administration at Clarion University.  The records show that more than 2,000 State System employees made $100,000 or more last year.
