Fledgling group helping borough fight crime

Blairsville Borough police say the new Crimewatch program has been great for the community.  Aty last night's council meeting, acting police officer-in-charge Jill Gaston said the Crimewatch group has onlt met three times, but the meetings have been packed.  She said they have been a great  tool for getting people familiar with the police officers, teaching them what to watch for and how to act when they see a crime, and what warrants a call to police.

The Crimewatch group will meet again on Thursday night at 6:00 at the Blairsville Elks Lodge, and will focus on making homes and cars safer.

In other business from last night’s meeting, the borough purchased 11 new police radios at a cost of $21,153.  The new radios will bring the borough police force in line with Indiana County's new 911 system.
