Formal groundbreaking will be held next week on the third phase of Indiana’s Streetscape Project. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for next Tuesday at 1 p.m. at North 7th Street.
This particular phase focuses on a redesign of the traffic pattern on North 7th Street in order to make the area friendlier to pedestrian traffic, gas and water line improvements, storm drainage work, sidewalk improvements and new street lighting. A highly anticipated portion of the project will focus on the revitalization of the Vinegar Hill steps area, with new steps, a new cement retaining wall and a new safe landing area at the bottom of the stairs.
Past Streetscape projects have focused on the 500 and 900 blocks of Philadelphia Street and future work will include the 600 through 800 blocks. Following the groundbreaking ceremony, a special reception will be held at Twisted Jimmy’s along North 7th Street.
