The borough of Blairsville has hired a new police chief.  Michael Allman comes to Blairsville from West Virginia, where he serves as a county sheriff.  It is worth noting that the definition of sheriff is different in West Virginia and in that position Allman’s duties were similar to a magistrate judge.

Borough officials say Allman has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from West Liberty University and is a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy.  He is also a certified DARE instructor.  Allman is on the job this week in Blairsville.  His salary is $55,000.  He follows former Chief Chris Thompson, who resigned in 2010.
