Judge William Martin has denied a motion to compel enforcement of a plea agreement in the murder case against Shaun Fairman. Little is known about the reasons behind the motion, but such a motion generally seeks to reinstate a plea bargain that had been agreed to and then withdrawn.
The ruling means jury selection in the case against Fairman will begin on Monday. Fairman is charged with shooting to death his father-in-law, Richard Shotts, at a home just south of Trade City in North Mahoning Township last June.
He also is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses for allegedly pursuing his estranged wife through the house, intending to shoot her. She shot him first, though, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
