Contract awarded for seal coating; bid to be reviewed for paving

The White Township Supervisors last night reviewed bids for this year’s seal coating and paving projects, awarding the contract to Russell Standard Corporation of Mars at a cost of $39,610.97.

The bid for road paving, however, has not been finalized. Grannas Brothers of Hollidaysburg came in with a low bid of $259,319.90. But, Township Manager Milt Lady said they were unfamiliar with that firm. The bid will be accepted pending some investigation of Grannas Brothers.

In other news from the supervisors' meeting:

  • The township is still in talks with Senator Don White’s office about the possibility of using labor from nearby correctional facilities. Lady said the township came up with about 885 man hours of stream dredging.

  • A transportation advocacy group is looking to be involved in the redesign of the intersection of East Pike and Philadelphia Street. They’re trying to make the intersection friendlier to bikers and walkers.
