The project manager told the Armstrong School Board last night that construction has begun on the new high school that will replace Kittanning, Ford City, and Elderton high schools.
Roshelle Fennell of Reynolds Construction Management reported that the first step is site preparation, and the contractors are clearing trees from the property along Buffington Drive, off Route 422 in Manor Township. A temporary access road is being built, and the trailer that will serve as the construction headquarters should be moved in as early as Monday.
Fennell told the board they anticipate an 800-day construction schedule, with the as-yet-unnamed new school to be open for the start of the 2015/16 school year.
Armstrong Superintendent Stan Chapp reported that he has met with PennDOT to discuss highway improvements and the agency has agreed to work with the district.
Last night’s meeting was a work session in advance of the board’s regular meeting on Monday.
