Suspect arrested for DUI as he leaves police barracks following drug arrest

A Shelocta man reportedly nearly overdosed yesterday, was arrested on drug charges, and managed to get himself pulled over for DUI as he left the state police barracks.

State trooper Anthony Baum Jr. says he was dispatched at about 3 o’clock to Douglas Bressler’s home along Sugar Avenue in Shelocta for a report of two men possibly overdosing.  When he got there, he found Douglas Bressler passed out on the floor and 32-year-old Thomas Helman passed out in the passenger seat of Bressler’s car.  Both were in possession of drug paraphernalia including hypodermic needles and heroin-related items, and both were arrested and taken to the state police barracks inWhiteTownship.

After processing, both men were released to Bressler’s girlfriend, who came to pick him up, but Bressler started arguing with her and shoved her out of the driver’s seat, got in and pulled away.  State troopers knew he’d been drinking all day and saw the argument, so they caught up to him and pulled him over for driving under the influence.
