The Indiana Borough Council swore in its latest member at last night’s meeting.
Indiana Mayor George Hood swore in Councilmember Gerald Smith to replace Tom Shively, who resigned earlier this month as second ward representative.
Constellation Energy then gave an hour-long presentation on energy savings. Constellation is known locally for entering into contract with the Indiana Area School District.
A contract with this, or any, energy savings company allows for capital improvements that are paid for with the long-term savings from energy efficiency.
Borough Manager William Sutton then announced to the council that Sen. Don White and Rep. Dave Reed have helped to secure $500,000 for improvements to the Indiana Free Library. Sutton said this was contingent on the borough offering a long-term lease in the community building to the library. This $500,000 could be combined with energy saving measures through Constellation. Sutton said they are currently waiting for a response from the library board of directors.
