Armstrong/Indiana unit expands offerings

With a grant from the United Way of Indiana County, the Special Olympics of Armstrong and Indiana counties has announced it will begin an equestrian program to offer participants the chance to learn to ride and care for horses.  Equestrian Coach Kristen Kalanavich of Indiana will lead the program, based at Winterfield Farms, off Airport Road about four miles from Indiana.  Kalanavich is state and nationally certified in therapeutic riding.

The Special Olympics of Indiana County currently offers four sports: bocce ball, bowling, snowshoeing, and track & field.  In addition to the equestrian program, the organization plans to offer softball, basketball, volleyball, and swimming.  However, it needs volunteers to make than happen.  If you are interested in finding out more, contact Mary Jane Ramer, the manager for Special Olympics of Armstrong and Indiana counties, at 724-568-2530, or by email at maryj12@verizon.net.
