Crews with the Pennsylvania-American Water Company were called out to a water main break this morning on Philadelphia Street in Indiana Borough.
An eyewitness says that they saw the break around 7:30 this morning, and water was gushing from the main at 13th and Philadelphia Streets, and water was flowing down to 10th street. With the sub-zero conditions, water also froze on the roadway and sidewalks very quickly on the South side of Philadelphia Street. Water had to be shut down in the area to prevent the situation from getting worse.
Crews from PA American Water Company are on the scene now to fix the underground pipe. Also, PAWC crews along with crews from Indiana Borough and PennDOT were on scene laying down salt to help melt the ice.
PAWC crews say that if all goes well, water should be back on by noon and crews should be out of the area by 2:00.
