Winter salt supply stretched

It’s been a difficult winter for the people maintaining our area roadways, including in Indiana Borough, where Public Works Director Dave Fairman says the salt supplies are stretched to the limit.

Fairman says he has about 100 tons of salt left and his supplier in DuBois says they’re having problems getting salt, too.  Indiana is at its contracted limit, although Fairman says he has authorization to exceed that amount by 40 pecent.  If he does, the money will come out of the paving budget.

Fairman says the streets have weathered the winter relatively well, but he is beginning to see some potholes.  Some have been patched already, and he’s calling on the public to report potholes to him as quickly as possible.  He  says that the extra low temperatures of this particular winter could produce deeper, more widespread potholes in Indiana Borough.

To report a pothole on an Indiana Borough street, call Dave Fairman at 465-6512 or email him at dfairman@indianaboro.com.
