UPDATE: Eagan Minich surrendered to State Police Friday afternoon at about 4 pm. He is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the shooting of of Hayden Warmke, who is in stable condition. Warmke was shot in the leg.
State police have named the suspect in the early-morning shooting yesterday of IUP student Hayden Warmke.
29-year-old Eagan Minich of Indiana is still at large. He is charged with attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault.
The incident began just after 2 AM at 7th and Philadelphia Streets in downtown Indiana and may have been a road rage incident. Police say Minich followed Warmke to an apartment building on Maple Street and confronted him, punching Warmke in the face several times and knocking him down, punching him again, and then pulling a gun and shooting Warmke in the leg. Minich fled in his car, but a witness who was in that vehicle with Minich fled on foot, and police say the witness was instrumental in identifying him as the assailant.
Warmke, the victim, is twenty years old and from Hollidaysburg. He was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
