HEARING TODAY FOR DRIVER CHARGED WITH HITTING PEDESTRIAN
Elderton man charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI

3/16/2014

The Indiana County courts are starting to process the numerous defendants arrested last week for their actions during the IUPattys events in Indiana.  Among the preliminary hearings scheduled today is one for 20-year-old Clayton Toy of Elderton, who is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI for hitting a pedestrian with his car in the 1200 block of Philadelphia Street early in the morning on March 8th.  The pedestrian, who was not publicly identified, was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown with head injuries.  Because no name was provided, there is no way to check on a condition report.

Additional charges against Toy include DUI, DUI as a minor, purchasing alcohol as a minor, and simple assault.  He is currently free after posting ten percent of his $25,000 bond.

Indiana Borough Police Chief William Sutton is scheduled to give a follow-up report on the IUPattys event to the Borough Council Public Safety Committee on Thursday evening.
