IUP Headlines

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP sophomore Chris Temple (Malvern, Pa. /Great Valley) ran for a career-high 234 yards and set a new school record with six touchdowns as the Crimson Hawks defeated Edinboro 42-21 on Homecoming this Saturday afternoon.

THE GAME: The Crimson Hawks return to Indiana to host Edinboro on Saturday afternoon for IUP Homecoming 2015. Kickoff at George P. Miller Stadium is set for 2 p.m. The Crimson Hawks enter the contest after knocking off previously unbeaten Mercyhurst 35-14 in Erie. They're now on a two-game win streak and will try to extend that to three against Edinboro, which comes in with a 0-4 overall record. The Fighting Scots nearly pulled a big upset last weekend, eventually falling to California (Pa.) by a score of 37-30. These two teams have split their last two meetings, but IUP has won four of the last five overall matchups.

Women's Soccer to Host Three Games this Week

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior football player Steve Franco (Tyrone, Pa. /Tyrone ) and sophomore women's soccer player Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport) have been named the IUP Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 27.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP junior safety Steve Franco (Tyrone, Pa. /Tyrone ) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, which was announced on Sunday afternoon.

ERIE, Pa. – The IUP defense returned three of its four interceptions for touchdowns and limited Mercyhurst to just six rushing yards as the Crimson Hawks defeated the Lakers 35-14 on Saturday afternoon at Tullio Field.

The Crimson Hawks take their first road trip of the season as they open up PSAC West play at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff in Erie is set for 1 p.m. IUP rebounded last week to defeat Lock Haven 38-13 for its first win of the season, finishing with 372 yards rushing while scoring its second defensive touchdown of the season. The Lakers enter the week with a 3-0 record and are currently riding a 10-game win streak, with their last loss coming in 2014 at the hands of the Crimson Hawks. IUP holds a 5-2 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 2008, the year Mercyhurst joined the PSAC.

Yes, he's a key member of the IUP football team, and a good one at that. But football is only part of what Pegues is about. When his nose isn't in the Crimson Hawks' playbook, it's in his textbooks, as his thirst for an education gets quenched every day as a student in the Cook Honors College.
