IUP stopped Edinboro with a late interception and held on to beat the Fighting Scots, 13-6. Penn State was beaten by Michigan, 42-7.
In high school football playoff action, Saltsburg topped Penns Manor, 35-28 to advance to the second round and a matchup with District 6 Class A top seed Northern Cambria. In Double-A football, West Shamokin came up just short, falling to Bellwood Antis, 14-6.
The Marion Center girls won the state Class A girls cross country championship yesterday in Hershey, placing five of their runners in the top 90. Senior Mackenzie Walker placed 19th in the field, freshman Nevada Armstrong was 31st, juniors Alyx Cornetto and Micaylee Dehaven were 58th and 65th, respectively, and freshman Lilly Ryer was 89th. Marion Center’s combined score of 96 points was 42 better than second place Union City.
The Indiana boys finished second in the Class Double-A behind Greensburg Salem. For Indiana, Joey Bujdos was 35th overall, Kendall Branan was 46th, Joel Beckwith was 50th, and Tucker Davis was 52nd.
And, in professional sports, the Penguins were thrashed by Toronto, 5-0.
