District 6 has set the schedule for this weekend’s playoff action, with three Heritage Conference teams still in play, and two of them scheduled to meet each other on Friday night.
Number-2 seed Ligonier Valley easily handled Bellwood Antis, 34-7 on Saturday and the undefeated Rams will clash with the undefeated top-seeded Richland Rams for the District 6 Double-A championship on Friday night at 7 o’clock at Mansion Park in Altoona. Richland thrashed Penns Valley, 58-7 on Friday. Mark Bertig and Ward Hilliard will have all the action on Cat Country, 106.3 FM starting at 6:15.
In the Class A semifinals, top seed Northern Cambria will take on number-5 United after both won close games over the weekend. The Colts held off hard-charging Saltsburg, 36-34 on Friday night, and United put together a 15-play game-winning drive in the 4th quarter to put away Portage, 28-22. United and Northern Cambria met in the season’s first week, with the Colts prevailing, 43-14.
United is on a six-game winning streak and sits at 8-4 heading into Friday night. Northern Cambria is 7-2 and has won three in a row since a loss to Ligonier Valley on October 12th. The other District 6 Class A semifinal will be on Saturday night, with number-3 Bishop Guilfoyle visiting 2nd-seeded Juniata Valley.
