IUP unveiled the 2018 NCAA Division Two Elite Eight national semifinalist banner yesterday, celebrating last year’s run to the Final Four by the women’s basketball team, and then this year’s version of the Crimson Hawks went out and thrashed Ohio Valley, 101-62 to finish a perfect weekend.
The women hit eleven three-pointers, forced seventeen turnovers, and pulled down 56 rebounds, 27 more than Ohio Valley. Twenty-one of those boards were on the offensive end, resulting in 24 second-chance points. Carolyn Appleby led the way with 16 points. Lexi Griggs added 14 and Lauren Wolosik scored 11.
Both the women and men were 2-0 in season-opening weekend action at the KCAC, and they’re both back on the court for a home doubleheader on Wednesday. The women will play PSAC rival Bloomsburg in a non-conference game, followed by the men taking on Bowie State. The action gets underway at 5:30, with Jack Benedict’s pregame beginning at 5:15 on 92.5 FM, U92, and the U92 Sportschannel.
