The IUP basketball teams return to the court tonight with a doubleheader at the Kovalchick Complex. The 5th-ranked women open the action against PSAC rival Bloomsburg. It’s a conference-mandated game that will not count in the standings.
IUP started the season over the weekend with easy wins over Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Valley, led by the Lauren Wolosik, Lexi Griggs, and Carolyn Appleby. Bloomsburg is also 2-0, with wins over Fayetteville State and Lincoln. The Huskies leading scorers are Alyssa Mack, Taylor Montana, and Marissa Molnar.
The 8th-ranked, 2-0 IUP men take on Bowie State, which is 0-2 after losing to Charleston, 89-75 and to Glenville State, 118-111 last weekend. Rinardo Perry scored 28 in that Glenville State game and Juwun Smith 20. Keith Duffin had 22 in the Charleston game.
IUP was led by Cobo Diaz in its opening wins over Concord and Virginia State. The PSAC West Athlete of the Week averaged 22 points in the two games. Malik Miller scored a career-high 24 against Virginia State and guard Dante Lombardi became the fifth player in IUP history to record 400 assists while also scoring 1,000 points.
