The Penguins have signed general manager Jim Rutherford to a three-year contract extension, and also yesterday, Rutherford worked out a trade, indicating he is serious about his disappointment with the team’s early season. Winger Carl Hagelin was shipped to the L.A. Kings for winger Tanner Pearson.
The 26-year-old Pearson tallied 15 goals and 25 assists for L.A. last season. Pearson has not scored yet this season. He is expected to be in the lineup tonight as the Pens host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Center Sidney Crosby did not practice yesterday because of an upper body injury. There’s no word on whether or not he’ll skate tonight against Tampa Bay. The Pens have lost six-of-seven and are 7-6-and-3 on the season. Tampa Bay is in first place in the Atlantic Division.
