The Penguins have now lost six of their past seven games after falling to Tamps Bay, 4-3 last night.
Brayden Point scored a natural hat-trick, all on the power play and in a total span of just 91 seconds, as the Lightning scored all four of their goals with the man advantage. Two of those goals were on back-to-back 5-on-3 power plays.
Tthe Penguins led 2-0 in the first period on goals by Patric Hornqvist and Phil Kessel, but penalties on Kessel and Evgeni Malkin gave the Lightning a full two minutes with the 2-man advantage, and early in the power play, Matt Cullen took a tripping call and that extended the 5-on-3.
Shortly after Point’s third goal, Hornqvist scored again to tie the game, but another second period power play goal by the Lightning minutes later ended up being the game-winner.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby missed last night’s game and may be out a week with an upper-body injury.
The Pens return to the ice tomorrow night at Ottawa. You’ll hear it on 92.5 FM U92.
