The family of a man who was killed last week in a front-to-rear collision at the Route 66/Route 22 intersection in Salem Township is calling for charges to be filed against a Homer City man who caused the crash.
27-year-old Tyler Strini is a state trooper assigned to the Uniontown barracks who was on his way home from working the overnight shift last Wednesday morning when his BMW slammed into the rear of a stopped car operated by 56-year-old John Farally of Pitcairn, Allegheny County.
Farally died at AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville about four hours after the crash. Strini refused an ambulance transport but did go to a hospital to seek treatment of minor injuries. He reportedly was not subjected to a blood draw.
State police say that the investigation is ongoing and the Westmoreland County district attorney will be kept informed of the findings, which include an accident reconstruction.
In interviews with several Pittsburgh TV stations, Farally’s family, including his daughter, is expressing outrage that charges have yet to be filed. Strini has been off the job since the crash but is scheduled to report back to work tomorrow.
