With a 5 PM NHL deadline tomorrow to finalize their opening day roster, the Penguins yesterday signed veteran forward Colin White to a one-year, two-way contract that will count $775,000 toward their salary cap.
The 26-year-old was in training camp on a professional tryout contract. White was a 2015 first round draft choice of the Ottawa Senators who played last season with the Florida Panthers, scoring eight goals with seven assists and a plus/minus of zero. He also played in all 21 of their playoff games, with two assists. For his career, he has 44 goals and 69 assists with a plus/minus of minus-52.
As of this morning, the Penguins had 48 players under NHL contracts, according to CapFriendly.com. The league maximum is fifty. CapFriendly estimates the Pens at $945,658 under the salary cap.
