The PIAA today released new enrollment numbers for 2023-24 & 2024-25 school years.
First, Indiana, which competes in the WPIAL, will remain 4A in football and baseball, but will climb to Class 5A in boys’ and girls’ basketball.
In the 12-team Heritage Conference, the start of the 2024 high school football season will feature six 1A and six 2A schools, with Cambria Heights, Marion Center, and Conemaugh Township moving from 1A to 2A, joining United Valley, West Shamokin and River Valley. The remaining Class A schools are Homer-Center, Portage, Penns Manor, Conemaugh Valley, Purchase Line, and Northern Cambria.
In boys’ basketball, the makeup of the Heritage Conference will be four 3A schools, six 2A schools, and three 1A schools. Northern Cambria will drop from 2A to 1A, joining Conemaugh Valley as the only teams in Class A. Penns Manor and Portage will move up from 1A to 2A, joining Homer-Center, Purchase Line, United, and Conemaugh Township, which remain 2A. Marion Center, West Shamokin, and Cambria Heights all move from 2A to 3A, joining River Valley.
In Heritage Conference girls’ basketball, there will be four teams 1A, 2A, and 3A. Northern Cambria’s Colts and the Portage Mustangs move down in class from 2A to 1A, joining Conemaugh Valley and Purchase Line. Penns Manor, Homer-Center, and United remain in 2A and will be joined by Conemaugh Township, which will move from 1A to 2A. Marion Center and West Shamokin will move up from 2A to 3A, joining Cambria Heights and River Valley, which remain 3A.
Finally in baseball, Marion Center and West Shamokin climb to 3A, while Homer-Center and Northern Cambria drop from 2A to 1A.
All but one Heritage Conference team competes in PIAA District 6. The exception is Conemaugh Township, which is a part of District 5.
