UPDATE: Blairsville Borough Police reported that the first crash was reported at 4:55 this morning along Route 22 in the area of the Route 217 interchange, also known as Ramp Road. When police got there for the initial report, they were told of three other crashes in the same area. Five cars were towed from the scene and one person was taken to IRMC by Citizens’ Ambulance for treatment of injuries. Route 22 was closed for about two hours as crews cleared the scene and put salt on the road to make the scene passable.
WHAT WAS FIRST REPORTED
It’s been a busy morning already for Indiana County’s First responders as they have responded to three vehicle accidents this morning.
The first accident was reported at 4:02 AM along Route 119 South in Center Township, reportedly near the Sheetz. The driver reportedly hit an icy spot on the road and hit the guard rail. The road has since reopened and there were no injuries reported, according to Homer City Fire Chief Terry Gardner.
The second and third accidents were reported around 5:00 this morning near a bridge on Route 22. In one crash, scanner reports that say that a car hit a jersey barrier near a bridge. It was also reported that ice was prevalent on the bridge, making conditions slick for the road. Two vehicles were reportedly involved in the second crash in the area, with slick road conditions once again playing a factor in the crash. Coral Graceton firefighters were called in for Standby for the Black Lick fire department. As soon as we have more information on this incident, we will pass it along to you.
A third call this morning was for the Commodore Fire Department for power lines down along Route 580 in Green Township at 4:26 AM.
