The Penguins dropped out of the second wild card slot in the Eastern Conference, with only two games left in the regular season. Paul Steigerwald has the story of a loss to the first place Bruins.
The Penguins will close the season hosting the Predators on Monday and visiting the Islanders on Wednesday. They were passed by the Capitals, Red Wings, and Flyers, who all won and have 87 points to the Pens’ 86, so the Penguins have to win both of their games and hope for at least one loss by each of the other three, with the exception of the Flyers, who have only one game left. They could conceivably win that game but still lose out on the playoffs by being idle while any of the other three teams in the race win both of their remaining games.
