SOFTBALL
For the second time this week, Marion Center edged West Shamokin 1-0. Madison Lipsie drove in Brookelynn Hill with a sacrifice fly in the 5th for the game’s only run. Cheyenne Silvis threw a no-hitter against the Wolves on Monday. She threw a 4-hitter on Wednesday, striking out 5. West Shamokin’s Avery Elkin was outstanding, giving up 6 hits and just 1 run, striking out 7 and walking one.
Penns Manor broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the 5th, then added 3 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to down Purchase Line, 9-3. Penns Manor did not provide stats. For Purchase Line, Brooklyn Walker had 3 hits and Kadance Nedrow had 2.
Indiana got on the board with a run in the 3rd, then scored 3 in the 4th, one in the 5th, and 4 in the 7th for a 9-1 win over Highlands. Freshman Kaylee Cass had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs. Olivia Zimmerman had 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Addie Stossel had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in one. In the circle, Zimmerman struck out 14 batters.
BASEBALL
Homer-Center scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning and routed Marion Center, 11-1 in 5 innings, in the continuation of a rain-shortened game from last week. The Wildcats pounded out 10 hits. Brayden Rado was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and he scored 3 times. Nash Budner and Owen Saiani both had 2 hits and drove in runs. Caleb Palmer threw 3 innings for the win, striking out 3.
Penns Manor put up 6 runs in the 3rd inning, 5 in the 4th, and 9 in the 5th to run away from Purchase Line, 20-7. Carter Smith had a tremendous day, going 4-for-5 with 3 home runs, a double, and 6 RBIs. Kayden Detwiler had 2 hits with a homer, Andrew Freno had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs, and Tyler Cooper had 2 hits. For PL, Owen Misko had 2 hits and 3 RBIs and John Hughes had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
TRACK & FIELD
The WPIAL yesterday announced the 2024 James Collins Scholar Athlete Award winners. One of the twenty athletes honored is Charlie Weber, the Indiana senior who captained both the cross country and track & field teams. He won the conference championship in the pole vault last year and was 9th at the state tournament. A guest yesterday on Indiana In the Morning for the Excellence in Education segment on WCCS, Charlie carries a 4.221 GPA and will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

HERITAGE CONFERENCE
In a Heritage Conference tri-meet, United tops the boys competition with 68 points. River Valley is second with 48 and Marion Center third with 29.
It’s the same order of finish for the girls. United scores 85 points, River Valley 37 and Marion Center 22.
