James Michael Rummel, 85 of Cherry Tree, died Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Communities at Indian Haven. Born in Montgomery Township, Indiana County on October 1, 1938, he was a son of the late Wilmer Rummel and Erma (Birchall) Rummel. He was the widower of Carol (Lowmaster) Rummel who died September 26, 2021.
In 1956, Jim was a member of the first graduating class of Purchase Line High School. For many years, he worked as a welder for the Barnes & Tucker Coal Company. He later worked for a brick laying company, and then the Hahn Fire Apparatus company, both located in Hamburg. Following his retirement, Jim drove minivans for 15 years for Tri-County Transportation.
He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960’s and later was a member of the Glen Campbell American Legion.
He was also member of the Cherry Tree United Methodist Church.
Jim was a competitive bowler. He enjoyed watching basketball games and hunting.
He is survived by his children: James S. Rummel & wife, Kristen, Kittanning and Jody D. Rummel & wife, Crystal, Las Vegas, NV. His granddaughter is Lacey Hohl and his great grandchildren are: Lily Hohl, Zara Munang and Mekhi Munang. Jim is also remembered by his sister, Sandra Leamer, Cherry Tree.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Coy.
