The Indiana County Municipal Service Authority has received $2 million in state grants for an emergency water interconnection project for the village of Barr Slope in Green Township.
In a joint announcement from State Senator Joe Pittman and Representative Brian Smith, the project will be crucial to the well-being of the residents of the community, as it was determined that wells were no longer producing adequate water for the system demand. The emergency contract was awarded to Pollard Land Services. The 2.8-mile extension will tie into ICMSA and Green Township Municipal Authority water systems.
Senator Pittman said that years of neglect has caused the water system to fail and “this new water line ensures professional services will be provided by ICMSA to the ratepayers going forward.” He added that during some of the worst of the trouble, several volunteer fire departments stepped forward to keep the system in operation. Smith added that the people deserve a reliable water source and there will be a solid backup plan in case the system fails in the future.
Waterline construction started last month. The grant was funded through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Keystone Communities Program.
