Five fire departments were sent to what was later described as a “minor” fire at a sawmill in West Mahoning Township this morning.
Indiana County 911 sent the Marion Center, Plumville, Dayton and Perry Township fire departments out at 10:54 AM to the mill near the intersection of Stephenson and Brink Road. Rural Valley firefighters were called in a few minutes later. Augie Santini with Plumville fire department said that embers from a slab pile several feet away from the mill were able to float over and catch some sawdust and scrap wood on fire. The fire was put out quickly with minimal damage reported. No one was injured.
Creekside and Rossiter fire departments were called in for standby detail during the incident.
