Pitt heroes Aaron Donald, Matt Cavanagh, and “Ironhead” Heyward are among 79 former players and nine ex-coaches nominated on this year’s National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame ballot.
Former Steelers Alan Faneca, Casey Hampton, Antwaan Randle-El, Troy Edwards, Flozell Adams, Rich Erenberg, and Ted Petersen are also nominated.
Ex-Penn Staters on the ballot include Ki-Jana Carter and Courtney Brown.
Retired Slippery Rock coach George Mihalick is among the PSAC names up for selection, along with Clarion player Gary McCauley, Jimmy Terwilliger of East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg’s Franklyn Quiteh and Jahri Evans, and Billy Hess of West Chester.
For the first time in many years, former IUP quarterback Lynn Hieber’s name is not included among the nominees. The record-setting thrower was a 1974-and ’75 All-American and was the ECAC Player of the Year. Frank Cignetti, Jim Haslett, and Chuck Klausing are IUP’s only representatives in the College Football Hall of Fame.
