Aaron Rodgers is scheduled to fly to Pittsburgh today and sign a one-year deal to quarterback the Steelers, as reported first by the NFL Network and ESPN. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer will join the team in time for the opening on Tuesday of the mandatory three-day minicamp, and then get down to studying his playbook in time for training camp, which begins at St. Vincent College on July 24th.
After a legendary career in Green Bay which included a Super Bowl win over the Steelers following the 2010 season, Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets, who happen to be the Steelers’ first opponent this season, on September 8th. He threw for nearly 39-hundred yards and 28 touchdowns last year with the Jets after missing nearly the entire 2023 season with an Achilles injury. The Steelers will play the Packers in prime time on October 26th at Acrisure Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Steelers completed their OTA sessions yesterday. Defensive lineman Cam Heyward says OTAs are important, but things will ramp up now.
For rookie Will Howard, the start of minicamp next week will be an important step toward becoming an NFL quarterback.
