In a close game, the Indiana High Indians beat Montoursville to claim their first ever PIAA Baseball championship, and they were greeted with a heroes’ welcome once they returned home.
People lined Philadelphia Streets at the start of the day to see them off and to greet them as they returned to Indiana High, where the team was greeted by many of their parents and friends. An escort was provided through town by Indiana Fire and Police departments, IUP and State Police, Citizens EMTs and others.
The win comes nearly a year after Indiana went to the state championships and lost. Coach Dan Petroff was happy that his team got redemption.
The Indians had to go to extra innings many times in the playoff run, but for the championship, they were able to get the win in regulation. Catcher Ethan Shank was happy that the game did not go beyond seven innings.
