The snowy conditions are not doing any favors for Indiana County’s first responders this morning as it is affecting the response for a structure fire in Conemaugh Township.
The fire was reported at 7:02 this morning at 41 Church Street in Saltsburg. Tunnelton, Saltsburg, Iselin, Coal Run, New Alexandria, Slickville, Bell Township, Homer City, Aultman and Coral fire departments were sent to the scene at that time along with Mutual Aid. Creekside was placed on standby at 7:35 this morning for that call. According to scanner reports, crews were advised to be careful when they responded as the roads are slick with snow and ice. The fire was reported in a garage. While that structure was destroyed, a nearby house was protected. Township officials said that multiple fire trucks had slid off the road as they responded to the scene.
No word yet on the cause of the fire. Crews are right now starting on cleanup and overhaul.
Vehicle crashes were reported throughout the morning as well, including one on the Wayne Avenue Entrance to the Route 119 bypass in Center Township. Two vehicles were involved, and one of them crashed into a median. No word yet on injuries or the extent of the damage.
Coal Run/McIntyre and Iselin fire departments were also called out to a motor vehicle accident at 7:00 this morning on Route 286 West near Young Road in Young Township. They would be joined by Citizen’s Ambulance and State Police.
