State police from Troop A, which covers Most of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties and all of Somerset and Cambria Counties were busy over the Thanksgiving holiday.
In the five-day travel period from November 26th to the 30th, troopers responded to 56 crashes in the coverage area. Nine of them had at least one person injured, and five were related to driving under the influence. No fatal crashes were reported in the area.
For enforcement efforts, troopers made 26 DUI arrests, issued 338 speeding tickets, 43 seat belt citations and 978 other tickets. There were no child safety seat tickets handed out for the holiday weekend.
Across the state, there were 1,183 total crashes, five of which are fatal. Six people were killed in those crashes. There were 61 DUI-related crashes. 186 crashes resulted in at least one person injured. 458 DUI arrests were made across the state.
Over 7,000 speeding tickets were issued, and 72 child safety seat citations were issued. Over 900 seat belt tickets were handed out, and over 19,000 other tickets were distributed.
