It’s been a whirlwind of activity for the Pittsburgh Penguins front office. Yesterday, they announced a five-player trade that sent two-time All-Star goaltender Tristan Jarry and former first round draft pick Sam Poulin to the Oilers in exchange for goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round draft choice. Jarry had played the night before in the Pens 4-2 loss to Montreal. General Manager Kyle Dubas said that even though Jarry could have been injured right before the trade, there was no consideration from making sure he didn’t play.
On the injury front, the Pens could see Rickard Rakell back in the lineup. He rejoined the team yesterday after a 20-game absence to recover from hand surgery from back in October. While he travelled with the team for the Global Series games in Sweden, he was not able to actively play. After practice yesterday, Rakell said he was happy to play hockey again and had no limits on his injury. He said it’s been tough mentally to just sit on the sideline.
The pens return to action this afternoon for a weekend double-header. Game one is today against the San Jose Sharks and game two is tomorrow afternoon against the Utah Mammoths. You can hear both games starting at 2:00 today and tomorrow on U-92.5 FM.
