Two ceremonies were held on Saturday at the Indiana County Courthouse. One paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives serving our country, and the other was part of the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
This year marked the 11th year for the “Wreaths for Indiana County Veterans”, a program put together by the American Legion, the Indiana County Christmas Tree Growers Association and others. As part of the ceremony, a wreath from the Christmas Tree Growers was placed at the Indiana County Veterans Memorial near the courthouse, and similar wreaths were placed at cemeteries throughout the county. Wesley Wertz with the American Legion said this year’s ceremony was important as it was also linked with the America 250 PA Celebration.
Also as part of the celebration, Indiana County’s Liberty Bell artwork was unveiled. It will now sit just outside the county courthouse as part of the America 250 PA celebration.

The bell was painted by local artist Mark Altrogge, who called it his longest project of his life. It features images from all over Indiana County, ranging from amish buggies and covered bridges to Jimmy Stewart and IUP.
