Indiana Regional Medical Center has been named an Adult Level Four Trauma Center by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.
The accreditation for IRMC will go into effect on January 1st. A trauma center is a hospital capable of providing continuous specialized services and resources to patients suffering from traumatic injuries. The level four designation is for trauma centers that are smaller in size and are located in rural areas. IRMC’s Trauma Program Manager Emilea Rippin said this recognition has been years in the making.
Dr. Nate Kriger from the IRMC Emergency Department said that trauma has a wide definition.
Hospitals who pursue trauma center accreditation must comply with the Standards of Accreditation set by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, which is a nonprofit corporation that serves as the certifying body for trauma centers in Pennsylvania.
